What has the Agency Council been up to in the past 12 months?

  • The Agency Council of the Marketing Association held its second Foosball Tournament last week.  Fiercely contested by twelve teams of highly motivated, trained Foosball lovers, the event saw a nail biting final between teams from Aim Proximity and M&C Saatchi.  With the score at 9-7, Martin Duke from M&C nailed a fierce drive into the back of the net, to clinch the win and the grand prize of two return flights to Queenstown courtesy of Air NZ, and a bottle of Moet donated by Rapp Collins.  The runners up didn’t go away empty handed, with $100 each to spend on Adidas gear.  The tournament was not without controversy though, with Sugar’s ‘snake’ move coming in for some criticism; judges are said to be reviewing the rules for next year.

Commenting on the tournament, Agency Council Chairman Ben Goodale said “It was great to see some new teams here this year, and the bar has definitely been lifted.  M&C are going to be hard to beat next year, although seeing the determination tonight there will be some motivated challengers next time!”.

  • Industry Networking Opportunities - The Wunderman "Wunderbras“ recently lost their title at the 2nd annual Agency Council Pub Quiz, held on 2nd of May at the Empire Tavern. Much to the Marketing Association’s dismay, almost all of the 18 teams competing did abysmally in the bonus Direct Marketing round. But in the end AIM Proximity’s “Lockwood Smith’s” had a convincing victory, finishing more than 10 points ahead of second place getters “No Phones” entered by Tango.
Agency Council Networking Events take place every 3-4 months and all agency staff are welcome. Next on the agenda is a reprisal of the inter-agency Foosball competition (scheduled for August this year) and a summer Lawn Bowls competition in November.

For more information, or to suggest a theme for the next networking event or inter-agency comp, please email Amy Bullen.

  • Agency Council Events - 2007 saw the third annual 'Creative Ideas that Drive Results' seminar. This half day seminar showcases some of the best results-driven, award winning creative work from New Zealand and around the world.

This year’s seminar included Vaughn Davis’ lively rundown of Y & R Melbourne’s VB Boonanza campaign complete with giant Boony moustaches and 3 trays of VB to give away. Lee Parkinson discussed the difficulties of blowing up a ship in Wellington’s harbour, and Wayne Pick showed us why adiRun took out top honours at the 2006 RSVP Awards. AIM’s Ben Chandler soldiered through a presentation of the award winning BNZ Body Parts campaign despite a dose of laryngitis, and colleague Dave King displayed M & C Saatch’s Caples award winning work. Finally Stephen Pearson and Judi Lewis made a trip back to NZ to show us how creating a fictitious airline managed to sell deodorant.

  • Agency Remuneration Guidelines Paper – The Council has also completed a handbook describing the options when it comes to remunerating a direct or integrated agency. Taking into account international best practice, the intention is to provide clients and direct and integrated agencies with practical advice which may be of help in client/agency fee discussions or negotiations. To download a copy of the Remuneration Guidelines, click here.

  • RSVP and RSVP CRAFT Awards Review – The Agency Council played a major role in a full scale review of the RSVP and RSVP CRAFT (formerly Special Honours) Awards.  These awards, nearly in their 20th year, still prove to be the most respected and recognised awards for Direct and Interactive Marketers in New Zealand.  A complete list of the changes to entry and judging procedures will be made available as part of the 2007 call for entries.

  • DM content for AXIS Adschool – The Agency Council has worked with AXIS Adschool to get more comprehensive direct marketing content into this well respected course.  If you’re interested in presenting one of the direct marketing modules at Adschool, or you’re keen to be a guest speaker on Direct Marketing at any of the tertiary institutions we work with, please email Amy Bullen, we’d love to hear from you.
