Meet the Tutors

We're so lucky to have such a great team of tutors on the Certificate of Direct Marketing. All our tutors have both great teaching ability combined with their industry experience which means students learn in an environment which is interative, fun and stimulating.

JOSEPH SILK
Auckland Tuesday night class

Managing Director, Silk Direct

Joseph’s specialist skills have been honed in the Client Service and strategic planning hot seat of agencies synonymous with results driven, leading edge communications.  In his fifteen years in the industry he has run the gambit of tailored Client solutions, everything from insurance to coffee, telecommunications to nappies and pharmaceuticals to wallboard.

With an intimate knowledge of integrated on and offline business-to-business and business-to-consumer communications’ strategies Joseph has plied his trade within most of New Zealand’s blue chip businesses and now heads up Silk Direct bringing his own brand of relationship marketing strategy and delivery to the Trans-Tasman marketplace. 

HELEN RUDOLF
Auckland Saturday class

Helen has recently joined the tutoring team in Auckland. After first starting out as a Media Buying Assistant at an ad agency, Helen then moved into direct marketing where she's remained for the past 10 years. She's worked in the Contact Centre industry as well as at Scholastic New Zealand, the Direct Marketing Association (now Marketing Association) and now at Nestle New Zealand. At Nestle, Helen is the Consumer Relationship Marketing Specialist and manages all interactive and relationship marketing communication. Helen's background includes design, print production, database management, campaign management, web and interactive development. She is also involved with the Marketing Association's eMarketing Network and has been for the last 4 years.

Outside work, Helen is a keen photographer, loves spending time her two cats, Tina and Tyler, and is in the process of extensively renovating her house with her husband. Helen is looking forward to working with a class of keen and eager students, imparting some knowledge and having fun at the same time.

ROSS CHURCH

Wellington Tutor

Ross is passionate about photography, calligraphy, classic cars and sponsoring children in India. Currently he is living one of his passions in his newly set up business in Paraparumu - Auto Classics (Auto Classics specialises in repairing, refurbishing & selling classic cars - especially MG's, Rover's or anything British).

Ross is also passionate about Direct Marketing and the positive effect it can have on a business. Ross was with the Bank of New Zealand for 5 years as their Direct Marketing Manager then moved into the sponsorship side, working with Sir Richard Hadley during the BNZ's sponsorship of Cricket in New Zealand. He has also worked with New Zealand Post with their internal education programmes.

Ross reports feeling a bit like the dinosaur of the tutoring team as he has been tutoring now for 16 years. Ross' student's always remark on his passion and knowledge for the subject and how this enthusiasm naturally in contagious.

JANE LAMB
Wellington Tutor

Jane has recently joined the tutoring team in Wellington. For the past three and a half years Jane has worked for New Zealand Post heading up their marketing team for international postal and courier services.  So as well as working on developing relationships with New Zealand Post's customers through direct mail, unaddressed mail and other media, she has worked with a wide variety of customers (small and large) using DM to develop their business.

Jane is keen to share her knowledge and in particular enjoys seeing the students' knowledge of Direct Marketing develop over the course of the semester and watching the results of the classroom workshops get better and better.

Outside of work, Jane has recently become addicted to SingStar, the Playstation version of Karaoke.  She tells us that it's okay to karaoke, so long as it is in the privacy of your own home!!

RACHEL AH KIT

Rachel is into her 7th year of tutoring and is looking forward sharing her knowledge and experience with a new class of eager students.  She has been Account Director with specialist direct marketing production and fulfilment provider, Marketing Impact for over 4 years, and recently transferred to their Christchurch office.

With over 10 years in the DM industry, Rachel has worked either in or with a wide range of small and large companies across a variety of industries including financial services, FMCG, not-for-profit, retail, insurance, and publishing.  Aside from time at other direct marketing related companies,  Rachel did a 3 year stint in various roles at the DMA (now Marketing Association) and spent 2 years running her own database marketing consultancy.  

When she’s not at work Rachel can be found exploring the restaurants & cafés of Christchurch, at the gym, sitting with her nose in a good book, or on the sofa with her husband and the cat watching a DVD!
