Frequently Asked Questions on Special Interest Groups

- Data Advisory Network (DAN)
- Direct Marketing Network (DMN)
- eMarketing Network (eMN)
- Marketing Agencies Council (MAC)
Each of these groups has an Executive which consist of up to 9 volunteers in their sector of the industry.
In addition to this each SIG is supported by a National Office representative who co-ordinates meetings, records outcomes and liaises with the Chairman and Executive.
The election of SIG chairpersons and executives will be carried out as specified in the Association’s Constitution.
2. What is the overall purpose of the SIG’s?
These groups are the voice of their sector of the industry on matters specifically concerning them. They are part of the Marketing Association and act as expert advisory groups to assist National Office to offer products and services that are as relevant and useful to our members as possible. Activities carried out by SIG’s must reflect the stated values and objectives of the Marketing Association.
3. What areas are these groups involved with?
- Identification of educational ‘gaps’ in the market and possible speakers or tutors

- Promotion of best practice, ethical business
- Acting as an advisory group for lobbying as required
- Identification of other areas of their sector where needs are not being met and looking for ways to meet these e.g. research needs
4. How do I get involved?
There are two ways to get involved:
- Become part of the SIG Executive – ie part of the 9 volunteers sitting on the Executive. You need to commit to attending regular meetings and taking part in initiatives undertaken by the Executive. Elections take place at the Marketing Association’s Annual General Meeting.
- Become a member of the SIG – Membership is a free benefit for Marketing Association members. Membership involves being kept up to date with what the Special Interest Group is working on and providing a channel for you to voice anything of concern that you feel the industry should be addressing.
If you are interested in being involved with any of these Special Interest Groups, please contact our Membership Team. Joining these special interest groups is free for all Marketing Association members!
