MAY 2007 - Half of One Percent

In the wake of privacy reviews and identify-theft scare stories, TV3’s Campbell Live has been gathering consumers’ stories of their mailbox experiences.  Marketing Association chief executive, Keith Norris appeared on the programme last Monday evening, discussing the responsible use of marketing data and promoting the Name Removal Register (NRR).  As a result, we’ve received around 1500 additional requests to be added to the NRR.

The good news?...... for marketers, those additional 1500 names will mean less wasted marketing costs, and for data managers, it means an up-to-the-minute “do not mail”/”do not call” register.  For consumers, it’s the knowledge that they’re in control of their mailbox to a far greater degree, and for the Marketing Association it is reinforcement of our self-regulation philosophy.  There are now 42,000 New Zealanders registered in the NRR, as well as four years’ Deaths Register names.
