AUG 2007 - Advertising Expert Becomes Adjunct Professor

The University of the Sunshine Coast has appointed New Zealand advertising expert Glen Wiggs as an adjunct professor.

Mr Wiggs is a director of the Foundation for Advertising Research, which operates in Australia and New Zealand, and a former executive director of New Zealand’s Advertising Standards Authority.

USC Dean of the Faculty of Business Professor Ed Fitzgerald said Mr Wiggs had already worked with the University on several advertising research projects and his appointment would boost future research.

“Mr Wiggs brings a rich experience in advertising regulation and knowledge of various advertising issues, such as obesity, which society and policy-makers are currently debating,” Professor Fitzgerald said.

“The University is fortunate to have Associate Professors Dr Michael Harker and Dr Debra Harker who have a strong academic background in advertising regulation and who have established the Social Marketing and Advertising Regulation Team (SMART).

“Mr Wiggs will join SMART and, with his vast practical knowledge, will add considerable value.”

Mr Wiggs said he was excited about his new role with the University of the Sunshine Coast.

“I’m looking forward to working further with Michael and Debra Harker on their research and to attracting more research money for the University,” he said.
