NOV 2007 - Sponsorship Awards Finalists Announced
Calibre of Awards Makes it a Tough Task for Judging Panel
Over 50 entries were judged this week to decide winners for eleven categories in this year’s New Zealand Sponsorship Awards.
The NZ Sponsorship Awards are designed to showcase and celebrate professionalism and best practice in the industry. Established in 1999, the awards honour and reward outstanding partnerships in the sport, art and cause-related sponsorship arenas.
Judging panel chairman Sir Ron Scott said that the overall standard of sponsorship management has increased markedly. “This year we have seen corporate organisations acknowledging the role of sponsorship and staff getting in behind and supporting the project. It was these types of projects that made it difficult for the judging panel to decide on the winners.”
The judges assessed each entry on the integration/leverage of sponsorships used; the partnership with the organisation; innovation and creativity, and most importantly the results achieved against the business objectives.
Spokesman for the judging panel Paul Dryden says selecting the top three winners from the several categories were separated by a few points on the marking scale. “As a consequence, deliberations for the Supreme Award winner were robust and took some time.”
He also noted that four out of the eleven categories - Best International Sport, Best Media, Best National Arts and Best National Cause – were “very strong this year.”
The panel included: Sir Ron Scott as Chair; Paul Dryden, PRINZ Executive Director; Nick Hill, CEO of Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC); Warwick Oakden, National Sales and Marketing Manager for the Radio Network; Anna Kominik, Director of Ideas Shop and Consultant to Creative NZ; Jeremy O’Brien, GM Programme Partnerships at TVNZ; Graham Medcalf, Editor at NZ Marketing Magazine; Stephanie Muntendam, Business Marketing Manager for APN News and Media, and Jan Charbonneau, Department of Marketing at Massey University.
The Sponsorship Award winners will be announced at a gala dinner held in Auckland on Thursday 6 December. A one-day Sponsorship Conference is being held on the same day with an outstanding line-up of speakers from New Zealand and overseas.
