FEB 2008 - Speaking Personally
Sue McCarty, the Marketing Association’s CEO introduces herself:
First and foremost I am a Mum of four boys (three children and a husband!!!). My eldest boy, Thomas, is 15yrs and my twins Luke and Connor are 12yrs – and my husband Steve wouldn’t thank me for sharing his age. However, I can tell you he is younger than me and a Sales Manager in the hygiene industry. We also have a dog, Bess (Doberman), a cat Zac (who thinks he’s human), an aviary full of birds and turtles and copious amounts of fish spread across three ponds!
I am a Gemini, English born and raised, and met my husband, a kiwi, whilst he was playing cricket in the UK. We relocated to NZ in 1992 after the birth of our first son as we thought it would be a far nicer place to bring up children – and it is the home of the All Blacks after all, which was a huge driver for me, so I now call NZ my home.
My varied career has seen me do everything from training horses and teaching horse riding (I am a BHSI) - to running a hotel - to 15 years in the IT&T industry and then setting up and running my own businesses. I am a passionate marketer, although my business experience has included business analysis, operations, customer service, sales and professional services.
A key philosophy in life for me is “have no regrets!” - so I believe in living life to the full and in the present. Whilst I like to keep busy and challenged professionally, I have also learnt the value of balance in life – so whilst I work hard I also enjoy a massage, time at the beach with the kids, my daily walk with the dog, coffee and a good magazine or book, good food and wine in the company of friends, travelling and experiencing the world and its different cultures etc. etc. … I think you get the picture…
