APR 2008 - Nestlé Cornell Scholarship Awarded to Foodstuffs Customer Loyalty Manager

Foodstuffs Customer Loyalty Manager, Daniel Pickering has been selected as the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Nestlé Cornell Scholarship.

Daniel will attend the two-week Food Executive Program at Cornell, an Ivy League University in Ithaca, New York from 14-24 July 2008.

“To be offered this scholarship is a real honour and I plan to take full advantage of the opportunity by taking as much as I can from the course content at Cornell and bringing back information and inspiration to the business,” says Daniel.

The Cornell Food Executive Programme is designed to meet the needs of tomorrow’s food industry leaders. It focuses on future trends in the food industry and offers practical advice on how to capitalise on these, and is regarded as the top course of its kind internationally. Topics covered include Sustainability for the Food Industry, Effective Leadership and Mindless Eating, a look at the hundreds of food decisions we make every day.

This year Ken Blanchard, best selling author of The One Minute Manager and Raving Fans will be presenting on the fundamental truths and principles behind ‘raving fan’ customer service. The presentation will be of value to Daniel who heads Foodstuffs’ customer specific marketing initiatives including the New World Fly Buys programme.

“Using customer data and information to reward our loyal customers and drive smart marketing decisions plus profitability for our operators is important for the company’s future plans,” says Daniel.

CEO of Nestlé New Zealand, Gary Tickle says the company’s now 12-year investment in sending New Zealand talent to Cornell is important.

“Making it possible for a young grocery sector professional, such as Daniel, to attend the Food Executive Programme is important to the FMCG sector. Fostering, inspiring and upskilling local talent will benefit the industry as a whole, and we are pleased to play a role in that,” he says.
