Name Removal Service for Database & List Managers
Have you ever had an irate consumer call your organisation and say...
"I just got your mailing. I didn't give ABC Company the authority to use my name. How dare you, I've a good mind to contact Fair Go..."
Just the thought of such a call sends shivers down the spine of any responsible direct marketer.
But the Marketing Association has a solution.
The Marketing Association maintains a consumer Name Removal Service (NRS) - any consumer can contact the Marketing Association, giving current or past addresses and telephone/fax numbers that they do not want any unsolicited communications directed to. As a responsible, ethical direct marketer, you'll not only be complying with the Privacy Act and being responsive to the wishes of consumers, you'll also save yourself the cost of mailing to or calling those who've said they don't want to receive unsolicited mail, telemarketing calls or fax sales messages.
The Marketing Association has an agreement with the Department of Internal Affairs enabling the Deaths Index to be added to the existing Name Removal Register (NRR) as from January 2005. Approximately 2,000 additional deceased persons names are added each month.
For marketers, this means more efficient, customer-friendly service. After all, nobody likes to cause unnecessary distress, particularly to the recently-bereaved, and you now have a tool that enables you to prevent that happening.
This is an important Marketing Association service - by utilising the NRR, you will be demonstrating your sense of social responsibility as well as reducing wastage and business costs.
There are increased protocols and sensitivities surrounding the use of the Deaths Index, including the need to document audit procedures. In particular, the Department of Internal Affairs reserves the right to conduct random audits from time to time.
Please note: The combined NRR will be supplied as one file only, i.e. from January 2005 it will no longer be split into 'do not mail', 'do not phone', 'do not fax'. However, telephone and fax numbers will appear alongside the records for which they are provided. The reason for this change is that under the agreement with the Department of Internal Affairs, deceased persons cannot be identified as such, hence merging the total file to retain that level of security.
We thank you for your commitment to best-practice data management.
This list of consumers names is available for use by Direct Marketers upon request. By matching NRS names against any prospect database you are considering using, you can remove anybody who has asked not to be mailed, phoned or faxed, and deceased persons.
NB: Your own customer list should not be affected. People generally only object to receiving unsolicited mail or telemarketing/fax calls. Therefore the NRR is a suppression file to ensure you do not market to people who have specifically asked not to receive unsolicited marketing material, or (from January 2005) are deceased.
The NRS file is available for rental for an annual fee of $1,495 (+GST) for companies to clean their own databases or an annual fee of $4,995 (+GST) for list brokers and data sellers. If you would like to rent the NRS file, or have any queries, contact the Marketing Association on 0800 347 328 ext 752, or email us.
Notes:
- The NRS (without the Deaths Index) currently has over 48,000 names (as at June 2008) and grows by approximately 550 names per month.
- Approximately 2,000 deceased names per month are added.
- The extraction is a text file supplied electronically.
- Prices do not include GST and are current as at April 2008.
