Data Advisory Network (DAN)

Launched by the Marketing Association in 2004, the aim and mission of the Data Advisory Network is to provide relevant and pragmatic guidelines for marketers and business decision-makers on the gathering, manipulation, storage and use of data. We deliver this expertise through interactive forums, resource centres, specialised events and access to leaders in the industry.

DAN's key objectives are to provide:

  • Direction: Develop the DAN resource centre by producing best-practice guidelines on a range of data topics
  • Awareness: Position DAN as the authority and first point of reference for data guidelines, best practice and education in New Zealand
  • N-lightenment: Provide practical education on relevant data topics that are of interest to our members

DAN Survey

We're here to work for you, but we can't achieve our objectives without your help. We need you to tell us what data topics are the most important to you, the data user.  So tell us what you think via our online survey - what you want to hear more about and how we can improve the services we provide.

Do you have a question in the specialist area of data-driven marketing?
You can put your question to the experts by contacting the Data Advisory Network. Email your question here.

Name Suppression Service
The Marketing Association is committed to continuing to provide a first-class suppression service for data management to allow marketers to maintain best practice standards for direct marketing. The NZMA administer the Do Not Call list, Do Not Mail list and the Deaths Index. More information about these services, subscribing and approved providers is available here.

If you are a consumer you can add yourself to both the Do Not Call register and the Do Not Mail register.

Recently the DAN Executive undertook a project to build a profile of the consumers who have joined the Marketing Association's Do Not Call and Do Not Mail registers. The results may well surprise you, especially those who have joined this year. To view this report click here.

Do Not Call Service

There are many ways in which your name can get on to a telephone list.  For example, you might have provided your phone number when you entered a competition, filled out a warranty card, attended an exhibition, subscribed to a magazine.  Perhaps you have ordered a product through visiting a website, through a catalogue or an 0800 number on a TV advertisement. And, of course, you are very likely to have a listing in the Telephone Directory.
