Accreditation Levels

Whatever your experience and qualifications, there's an appropriate accreditation level for you:


Affiliate Professional

  • Open to anyone who is studying marketing, considering a career in marketing or is actively engaged in a marketing role.

Associate (ACIM)

  • CIM Professional Diploma
  • CIM Professional Postgraduate Diploma or Chartered Postgraduate Diploma
  • University degree majoring in marketing
  • Equivalent level diploma majoring in marketing or an equivalent level marketing professional body examination
  • Another academic award in a relevant discipline: at least 50% of the syllabus must contain marketing modules. (If your degree does not contain Marketing Modules, the Marketing Association's Certificate of Marketing Management qualification can bridge this gap)
  • Or via experience only if you have at least three years' marketing experience and are influencing marketing management

Member (MCIM)

  • CIM Chartered Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) plus five years of marketing experience at management level
  • CIM Professional Diploma (or equivalent) plus seven years of marketing experience at management level
  • University degree majoring in marketing plus seven years of marketing experience at management level
  • Another academic award in a relevant discipline: at least 50% of the syllabus must contain marketing modules. (If your degree does not contain Marketing Modules, the Marketing Association's Certificate of Marketing Management qualification can bridge this gap) plus seven years of marketing experience at management level
  • Or via experience only if you have at least ten years' marketing experience at an operational level influencing marketing strategy, and seven years at management level
  • Or via marketing education - completion of the CIM Chartered postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) plus two years of marketing teaching and three years of practical marketing/consultancy experience

Fellow (FCIM)

  • MCIM level and CIM level 7, plus ten years in a senior marketing management position (five years at or close to board level and holding Chartered Marketer status for five consecutive years)
  • CIM Level 7 qualification (or equivalent) and holding the position of Professor or Reader for at least five years
  • MCIM level, plus 15 years' significant marketing experience with five years at or close to board level
  • 15 years' significant marketing consultancy experience with five years at or close to board level
  • 15 years' proven marketing experience in a sustained strategic marketing position, including ten years' marketing experience at or close to board level
  • 15 years' proven marketing experience in marketing consultancy, including ten years as a senior consultant working with clients at a strategic level or close to board level

Chartered Marketer

  • You can achieve Chartered Marketer status through a combination of knowledge, experience and continuing professional development (CPD). It is the opportunity to be recognised as achieving the highest level in our profession. Open to all MICM and FCIM members.
  • Chartered Marketer status is the mark of an up-to-date, experienced and qualified marketing professional. Chartered Marketers have an exclusive logo for use on personal stationery to indicate their achievement.
